You need coolin', baby, I'm not foolin'
I'm gonna send you back to schoolin'
Way down inside honey, you need it
I'm gonna give you my love
I'm gonna give you my love

Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love lyrics meaning

The interesting parts of Whole Lotta Love, voted the greatest hard rock song of all time on more than one occasion, certainly isn't the lyrics.

If it isn't already blatantly obvious, the song is about sex. Not that that's a bad thing. It certainly never lost the song any personality! As Robert Plant once said whilst talking about the song Black Dog:

Not all my stuff is meant to be scrutinized. Things like 'Black Dog' are blatant, let's-do-it-in-the-bath-type things, but they make their point just the same.

The fascinating part of this song is in production and musicality. The famous riff was written by Jimmy Page alone. He worked out the complexities before inviting the rest of the band to the studio to flesh the track out.

I had it worked out already before entering the studio. I had rehearsed it. And then all of that other stuff, sonic wave sound and all that, I built it up in the studio, and put effects on it and things, treatments.
