Despite being a feel-good disco hit, Stayin' Alive has some fairly rock'n'roll lyricism, telling the tale of how fame brings one confidence and affection.
It was written for the Bee Gees' Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, in a French chateau. The Bee Gees recorded the album in France because tax laws meant it would be much less expensive, following in the footsteps of Pink Floyd who had recorded a soundtrack album in the same chateau five years earlier.
