Adorable pixie girl or irritatingly kooky hipster – your opinion on Zooey Deschanel isn’t likely to change after watching the video to her musical side project, She & Him’s latest single, ‘I Could’ve Been Your Girl.’
For the singer/actress relies pretty much on the same sense of quirkiness that has divided opinion ever since she broke through to the mainstream with ‘Elf.’
Dressed in a pink pastel dress, the 33-year-old is seen running into an empty cafe where she then busts some 60s-inspired dance moves in an attempt to impress the only other customer, bandmate M. Ward, who is far more interested in reading his paper.
The ‘New Girl’ star is then slowly joined in her quest by a whole roomful of dancers in a scene reminiscent of her one-time co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s choreography routine in ’30 Days Of Summer.’
Deschanel, who is set to star as country legend Loretta Lynn in a Broadway production of 1980s film ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter,’ also directed the promo, a challenge which she revealed she thoroughly enjoyed:
“After seven years and four albums with She & Him, I figured it was about time I took a crack at making a video for a song I wrote.
“The process was so much fun, and gave me a chance to give a nod to some of my favourite ’60s musicals.”
The track is the second release from the duo’s fourth album, ‘Volume 3,’ which reached No.63 in the UK charts earlier this month.
