Fall Out Boy have unveiled the brutal – and often bloody – new video for ‘The Phoenix’.

One by tattooed one, each band member is taken hostage by a sizzling group of lady assassins.

Come the end of the video, the newly svelte front man, Patrick Stump, is left with – quite literally – a stump, having been tortured by the mysterious troupe of femme fatales.

Well, Patrick. That is what you get for writing an incessant chorus, complete with the line, “I’m going to change you like a remix”. Cringe.

The beady eyed among you – not you, Liam Gallagher – may have noticed that the video serves as “the prequel” to ‘My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)’. And breathe.

Writing on their official website, Fall Out Boy explained:

“Welcome to the prequel! Here’s the video for ‘The Phoenix’ – it tells the tale of how we ended up blindfolded in the back of the black van in the ‘My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)’ video. This is chapter 2 of 11. Stay tuned for chapter 3, coming to a computer, tablet, or phone near you soon.”

‘The Phoenix’ is the second single to be lifted from Fall Out Boy’s forthcoming studio album, ‘Save Rock And Roll’.

The album – which, for some strange reason, features collaborations with Elton John and Courtney Love – is due to be released on April 15.
