Come up to meet you
Tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart
Chris Martin composed The Scientist whilst in a Liverpool hotel. After sitting down at a piano and unsuccessfully trying to work out the chords to George Harrison's ballad "Isn't It A Pity", he stumbled upon the chord progression for The Scientist.
He told Rolling Stone in 2005:
I was in this really dark room in Liverpool, and there was a piano so old and out of tune. I really wanted to try and work out the George Harrison song 'Isn't It A Pity,' but I couldn't. Then this song came out at once.
